Parish Day We were blessed with a glorious day last Sunday for our Parish when roughly 600 gathered in the marquee for Mass and then relaxed in the warm sunshine until late afternoon. The weather on Saturday was not too pleasant but the rain went through over night and early morning to give us one of the best Parish days we experienced in the past 7 years. Yes we were well prepared with the large marquee but the warm sunshine made the day special for us. It was great to see so many people making the effort to spend the day together. First our thanks to Malvina Sanders and Newman School community for inviting us to hold our Parish day in the grounds. We were greatly helped too by Darren the caretaker. Parish Day Committee; We have a marvellous committee who have worked very well together to make the day a great success. Our grateful thanks to Ray Maher-Loughnan and all the team. Marquee; Sincere thanks to Jim Callaghan and Vincent Joyce for organising the marquee and setting up the amplification system making sure we could see and hear everything. Flowers; again as expected the flowers were beautifully arranged by Beverly. Many thanks. Barbecue; I know most people came well prepared but many of us found it difficult to pass the Catenian Barbecue stand where they served burgers and sausages to make sure no one went home hungry. Our thanks for your support and help. Bar; Gary and his team were hard at work making sure glasses were well topped up throughout the afternoon. Music; Throughout the day people commented on the wonderful uplifting music and singing led by the Folk Group and Junior choir. We have so many delightful children in the junior choir with lovely voices and under Jane’s leadership they are going from strength to strength. We will give them a break now for the Summer, but we hope they will all continue to support us again after the holidays. A special word of thanks to all of you for making the effort to join with us and celebrate our Parish Day. The venue is excellent where people young and old can relax and enjoy each others company. For those who wanted a little more exercise you had rounders and football for parents and children, with the majority of the children exploring the woods and climbing trees and others enjoying the disco with disk jockey Adrian. I don’t think I have seen parents so relaxed in the unexpected sunshine. See the Photos here |
