Mass Coordinators
We will send the rota early in September to all those who have volunteered to help as Mass coordinators. It has been a bit of a struggle getting people to make a commitment but I think we are nearly there. I know people who normally help will continue but when they are away it can be a little chaotic. Looking from the Sanctuary I often see people looking at the basket and wondering, will it bite if I pick it up and move it on. You won’t be criticised for helping. You don’t need a degree to ask a few people to help with collection, give out the newsletters etc What we are trying to do is to have someone willing to make sure all the boxes are ticked at a given Mass The volunteer would have overall responsibility and invite other members to help with collection, offertory procession, welcomers, tidy the Church etc. and you would be on duty just once a month at the Mass you normally go to. When we have all the names we will type a list of jobs to be undertaken by the coordinator. In case you are away on your given Sunday we will give you the tel numbers of the other 3 coordinators.
First Communion New Group
Thanks to all the parents who have registered children for our First Communion programme. It is a great help to us to have the names in as soon as possible. We will be unable to take any late applications after the 12th September. If your child is going into year 3 or older and you wish to join the group please take a form from the back of the Church. If you think your child is too young and would like to wait until he/she is a little older there is no problem. All forms must be returned to Priests House by 12th of September.
First Communion
Parents Meeting will be on Monday 27th September at 8pm in the Parish Hall. |
Induction
Rachel Holland
Our Diocese has a special service of Induction for newly appointed Headteachers of Catholic Schools. The appointment of a Headteacher is an event of great significance for the School and the wider community the Schools serves. The Catholic School is an integral part of the Church’s Mission. It is responsible in partnership with Parents, Governors, Priests for sharing our Catholic Faith and way of life with our children and young people. The Headteacher of a Catholic School exercises a special kind of Christian leadership on behalf of the whole community. That is why the Diocese considers it appropriate to have a ceremony of induction for all newly appointed Headteachers. The new Headteacher is presented to the Catholic Community as she promises with God’s help to lead the children in her care in love and friendship. We too promise to support her and the children in the School.
The service will take place here at St. Peters at the 11.15am Mass on Sunday 12th September. I am hoping Fr. David and Fr. Kevin will be able to join with us. After the service you are all invited to the Hall for drinks and snacks.
Rachel Holland will visit Sacred Heart and St. Georges Parish at a later date
Reading in Church
Can we ask all readers to speak a little more slowly. (I need to talk to myself too) I can generally catch every word when people read slowly. Remember it is God’s word and people would like to hear it. |

Eucharistic Ministers at 10am Mass
We decided during the swine flu scare not to offer the chalice at the 10am Mass on Sundays. Thank God that is behind us now and we will start offering the chalice from next Sunday September 5th . We will have 3 ministers giving the host and 2 chalices.
Altar Servers
Now that you are back from holiday I invite those who made their First Communion last year to help as servers at the Mass they normally go to. We will shortly be making a new rota list. Please write your name and the Mass you want to serve at and post in Priest’s House letter box.
Going Forth….First Communion
Certificates will be presented to the children the weekend of 18/19th September. The preparation class for all those who made their First Communion will be on Saturday 18th Sept 9am and 10.45am and the celebration at all the weekend Masses. 18th/19th September.
Adult Baptism/Confirmation
We will be starting a group for adults who have not been Baptised or Confirmed and those who want to know more about our faith. It could also be helpful for those who were baptised in a different Church but who want to play an active part in the Catholic Church. It could also be helpful for those who were baptised but over the years have drifted away from the practice of the Faith and in a position now to play an active part.
The first information evening will be here at the Priest’s House on Monday 20th September at 8pm.
I would love to hear from you.

Pakistan Floods
I was asked during the week why we didn’t take up a collection for Pakistan. For some reason the Parishioner wasn’t aware that we took up a collection about a month ago and the money was sent to CAFOD as their members are bringing some relief to those who lost so much. You were very generous and you gave over £900 in that collection. Many thanks.
Papal Visit
Our Diocesan organiser has informed me that there has been a big rush for tickets after the final deadline for the Papal visit and some more tickets may be available for Hyde Park. All those who sent in their information on time will get tickets and these should arrive the end of this week. Those who still want to go and applied late should write name address and tel number and post in Priest’s House by Tuesday this week and I will try and get tickets. At this moment there is no guarantee you will get tickets. All those going to Hyde Park will have to make their own way to Hyde Park.
200 Club
We will have the draw after the 11.15am Mass this weekend. It could be your lucky weekend. |
